Being a mother Is very exciting and the excitement that comes along with the kid is unmeasurable. This is not just to the mother, but the whole family as well. To every mum around, the main objective, once they have a baby, is giving them their best life and making sure that they are safe and sound. One of the biggest challenges that mothers come across is skin peeling. Skin peeling is a common problem among babies and therefore It shouldn’t cause you so much worry. It usually happens from the very first weeks after birth.
During birth, the child’s skin is extremely soft and with due time, the skin might appear to change in terms of complexion. This will include some peelings. This is completely normal but you have to make sure you find a way to make sure it’s not prolonged.
The main causes of skin peeling include; ichthyosis (a skin condition that leads to itching and shedding of the skin. It has no cure but with the application of creams, the skin will improve). Peeling is also caused by eczema, psoriasis and vernix caseosa.
So when the peeling occurs, how can a mother help her child? Here are a few tips.
1. Change the diaper brand
Table of content
Not to ill speak, but some diapers can cause a lot of harm to newborns. Factors such as the ability to absorb moisture, comfort and material have a lot to do with how the baby’s skin reacts to the diaper. You, therefore, need to change to a much better diaper brand. The brand you choose needs to be very comfortable for the baby. Comfort is the easiest way of treating a baby’s skin. You should, therefore, choose a good diaper brand that makes sure the peeled parts aren’t kept under a lot of pressure.
Choose a brand with good absorbent properties. This will help soak up the urine keeping the baby’s skin safe from possible skin peeling and infections.
2. Limit bathtub time
You may not be aware of this but baths have very detrimental effects on babies’ skins. This is however not just any bath but prolonged baths. Long periods in bath water washes away those naturally occurring essential oils in the baby’s skin that leaves them more susceptible to the issue of skin peeling. 10 minutes of a shower should be enough.
3. Cold air isn’t good for the baby
Its basic science that cold air is usually dry. This causes the baby’s skin to dry up very quickly which causes some painful cracks on the soft skin. This is what eventually translated to peelings. When the air is quite dry, use a humidifier to add some moisture to the air. This will moisturize the skin and at least keep away skin peeling.
4. Oatmeal baths will help
Colloidal oatmeal helps fight inflammations as well as itching. This will keep the baby away from touching or even scratching parts of the skin that have peeled which might end up making it worse. These baths are available in food stores.
Keep your baby safe from skin peelings. It’s not as hard as it sounds. Most importantly, keep him or her hydrated and always clean.
